When Miracles Meet Hard Hearts

Imagine witnessing someone raised from the dead. You'd expect everyone to fall on their knees in worship, right? Yet when Jesus raised Lazarus, some hearts softened while others hardened like concrete. The religious leaders didn't deny the miracle - they couldn't. They saw undeniable proof of Jesus' divine power, yet their response was to plot His death. This reveals a sobering truth: exposure to God's power doesn't automatically produce faith. Like clay that hardens in the sun while wax melts in the same heat, our hearts respond differently to the same gospel message. The difference isn't in the message's power but in our willingness to receive it. Every time we encounter Jesus - through His Word, in worship, or through life circumstances - our hearts either soften toward Him or grow harder. There's no neutral ground. Each moment of exposure to His truth is an opportunity for transformation or a step toward spiritual callousness. The encouraging news is that if your heart is stirring as you read this, the Holy Spirit is still working. He's drawing you closer, softening your heart like warm wax ready to be shaped by His love. Don't let this moment pass without responding to His gentle call.

Bible Verse

'Many of the Jews who had come to visit Mary, and had seen what Jesus did, believed in him. But some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done.' - John 11:45-46

Reflection Question

How has your heart responded to recent encounters with Jesus - has it grown softer or harder?

Prayer

Lord, keep my heart soft and responsive to Your truth. Help me recognize Your work in my life and respond with faith rather than resistance. Amen.
