Love That Runs
In the parable of the prodigal son, the Father does something unexpected. When he sees his son
returning from a distance, he does not wait on the porch with crossed arms. He runs. He closes the gap. He wraps his arms around a son who had wasted everything. That image is one of the most powerful pictures of fatherly love in all of Scripture. The Father did not approve of what His son had done. But his love never stopped. It never cooled. It never gave up. That is the kind of love God calls every Father to show His children. Not a love that is earned through good behavior, but a love that pursues even when it has every reason not to. And here is what makes this even more personal. That running Father is a picture of how God loves you. Romans 5:8 reminds us that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. God did not wait for us to clean ourselves up. He ran toward us first. Your children need to hear it clearly and often: there is nothing they could ever do to make you stop loving them. That kind of love changes people.
Bible Verse
"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."- Romans 5:8
Reflection Question
When your child fails or disappoints you, does your first instinct look more like the waiting Father or the running Father?
Prayer
Lord, thank You for loving me before I deserved it. Help me to love my children with that same relentless, unconditional love that reflects Your heart. Amen.
