Knowing the Truth Is Not Enough
Nimrod's great-grandfather was Noah. He grew up with a front-row seat to one of the greatest
miracles in human history. He knew where the world came from. He knew what God had done. And yet he chose rebellion. His ambition was captured in a single phrase spoken at the tower of Babel: "Let us make a name for ourselves." That desire to live on our own terms, to build our own kingdom, to be the center of our own story, is at the very heart of sin. Knowing about God is not the same as surrendering to God. Many people grow up in church, hear the gospel repeatedly, and still walk away unchanged. Information without transformation is just religion in disguise. But here is the hope. If you recognize that pull toward self-sufficiency in your own heart, that is actually the Holy Spirit at work. Awareness is the first step toward surrender. God is not asking you to have it all figured out. He is asking you to stop building your own tower and start trusting His foundation. That shift, from self to Savior, changes everything.
Bible Verse
"Then they said, ‘Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.’"- Genesis 11:4
Reflection Question
Where in your life are you most tempted to "make a name for yourself" rather than surrendering control to God?
Prayer
Lord, reveal the places in my heart where I am still building my own tower. Teach me to find my identity and security in You alone, not in what I can build for myself. Amen.
