When the Memory Returns

You made the decision to forgive. You meant it. And then the memory came back.

Maybe it was a quiet moment. Maybe something triggered it. And suddenly the hurt felt just as fresh as the day it happened. Does that mean your forgiveness was not real? Not at all. It means you are human. Luke 9:23 calls believers to take up their cross daily. That word daily matters. Following Jesus is not a one-time transaction. It is a daily commitment. And for some wounds, forgiveness works the same way. You may have to hand it over to the Lord every morning. And that is okay. That is not weakness. That is sincere faith in action. The enemy wants to use those returning memories to pull you back into bitterness. He knows that if he can keep you rehearsing the offense, he can keep you stuck. But you do not have to stay there. Every time that memory surfaces, you have a choice. You can dwell on it and go through the pain again and again. Or you can reaffirm your decision and hand it back to God. The Holy Spirit is faithful. He will bring healing. It may not happen overnight, but He is working. Keep showing up. Keep handing it over. That daily act of trust is not a sign that you failed. It is a sign that you are walking closely with God through something hard.

Lord, I hand this over to You again today. Thank You that Your mercies are new every morning. Heal what only You can heal, and help me to trust You with what I cannot carry on my own.
