The Tragedy of Religion without Christ
Caiaphas stands as one of history's most tragic figures - a man who knew about God, talked about God, and served in God's house, yet completely missed God Himself. As high priest, he was the most religious person in Israel, yet he was spiritually dead. His story reveals a terrifying possibility: you can be deeply religious and still be completely lost. Many people today trust in their church membership, religious knowledge, or good deeds to secure their eternal destiny. They assume that because they know about Jesus, attend services, or follow religious traditions, they're automatically saved. But knowing about Jesus and knowing Jesus personally are two entirely different things.
Caiaphas knew Jesus was the Christ - the evidence was undeniable. Yet he rejected Him to protect his own interests. This shows us that going to hell isn't about lacking information; it's about rejecting the truth we've been given. People don't perish because they don't know Jesus is the Christ - they perish because they reject Jesus the Christ. The encouraging news is that true salvation isn't about religious performance - it's about personal relationship. Jesus doesn't want your religious resume; He wants your heart. He's not looking for perfect people; He's looking for surrendered people who will receive His grace and follow Him.
'You can be deeply religious and go straight to hell.' - Caiaphas represents a dangerous reality. You can be religious and still be wrong. You can be influential and still be lost. You can talk about God and still oppose him.

Jesus, I don't want to just know about You - I want to know You personally. Help me move beyond religious activity to genuine relationship with You. Amen
