The Test of True Repentance

How can we know if our sorrow over sin is genuine? There's a simple but challenging test: Do we keep committing the same sin? When we're truly broken over our offense against God, something changes deep within us. We don't just feel bad about what we've done - we desperately want to turn away from it. Real repentance isn't just saying "I'm sorry" with tears in our eyes. It's crying out, "Lord, help me turn away from this!" It's the difference between regret and transformation. Many people get caught in cycles of sin, feeling terrible each time but never truly changing. They apologize, promise to do better, then find themselves right back where they started. This pattern reveals that their sorrow is more about consequences than about the sin itself. True repentance breaks these cycles because it addresses the heart, not just the behavior.

Bible Verse

'Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.' - 2 Corinthians 7:10
