The Power of Your Words

There's an old saying that God gave you two ears and one mouth so you could listen twice as much as you talk. But there's deeper wisdom here about the power of our words. Every time you're about to speak, you have a choice that will either build up or tear down, encourage or discourage, bring glory to Christ or dishonor His name. Before words leave your mouth, they reveal what's in your heart.

Are you speaking from your new nature in Christ, or are you reaching back to old patterns of anger, slander, or filthy language? Here's a simple but powerful test: before you speak, ask yourself one question - "Will what I'm about to say bring glory to Christ?" This single question can transform your relationships, your witness, and your own spiritual growth. When you guard your words, you're not just being polite - you're actively choosing to live from your new identity. Your words have the power to reflect the heart of Christ or the remnants of your old nature. Choose wisely.

Bible Verse

'My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.' - James 1:19

Reflection Question

Before you speak today, will you pause to ask whether your words will bring glory to Christ?

Quote

“Before you open your mouth, engage your brain and, ask yourself one question. Is what I'm about to say going to bring glory to Christ?”-Jimmy Clendenin

Prayer

Lord, help me guard my words and speak only what builds up and brings You glory. Make me quick to listen and slow to speak. Amen.
