The Power of Expectancy

Imagine living each day knowing that Jesus could return at any moment. This isn't wishful thinking - it's biblical reality. The early church lived with this daily expectancy, and the results were extraordinary. They experienced explosive growth, adding thousands of people to heaven's roll in just 25 years after Pentecost.

Their expectancy wasn't passive waiting; it was active, transformative living. When we truly believe Jesus could return today, it changes how we treat others, how we spend our time, and what we prioritize. It motivates us to live more like Christ because we know we could meet Him face to face at any moment.

This expectancy also fuels evangelism - when we realize time is short, we become more urgent about sharing the Gospel. Unfortunately, many churches today have lost this sense of anticipation. We've become comfortable with the status quo, planning as if we have unlimited time. But God's timeline is different from ours. The early church's expectancy led to multiplication, not just addition. When believers live with genuine anticipation of Christ's return, it creates an infectious energy that draws others to faith.

Bible Verse

'And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.' - Romans 11:25

How would your daily life change if you truly expected Jesus to return today?

Quote

The greatest failure of the modern church is its lack of expectancy regarding the return of Christ.”-Jimmy Clendenin

Father, restore in me a sense of expectancy for Christ's return. Help me live each day as if it could be the day I meet Jesus face to face. Amen.
