The Necessity of the Impossible

This is day-three of a five-day devotional on how God makes the impossible happen.

Why did Jesus have to be born of a virgin? Couldn't God have chosen an easier way? The virgin birth wasn't just a spectacular miracle to grab attention—it was absolutely necessary for our salvation. Every person born through natural means inherits a sin nature, making them unqualified to serve as a perfect sacrifice for others. Jesus needed to be both fully human and fully divine. Human, so He could represent us and understand our struggles. Divine, so His sacrifice would be perfect and sufficient for all humanity. The virgin birth accomplished both: Jesus received His human nature through Mary while maintaining His divine nature through His heavenly Father.

This reveals something profound about how God works. What seems impossible to us is often necessary for God's perfect plan. The very thing that makes us question 'How can this be?' might be exactly what needs to happen for God's purposes to be fulfilled.

In your own life, you might be wondering why God is allowing certain difficult circumstances. Why does the path forward seem so complicated? Why can't things be simpler? Sometimes what feels impossible or unnecessary to us is actually essential for God's greater purpose.

The virgin birth reminds us that God's methods, though they may seem impossible, are always perfect. He doesn't choose the easy way; He chooses the right way. And His right way often involves doing what only He can do, so that He alone receives the glory. Trust that if God is allowing something impossible in your life, it's because it's necessary for His perfect plan—both for you and for others who will be blessed through your story.

Bible Verse

'Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.' - Isaiah 7:14

Reflection Question

How might the difficult or impossible circumstances you're facing be necessary for God's greater purpose in your life?

Prayer

Lord, help me to trust that Your ways, though they seem impossible, are always necessary and perfect. When I don't understand why things must be so difficult, remind me that You see the bigger picture and that Your plans are always good. Amen.
