Replacing Revelation With Reasoning

There is a subtle temptation that every believer faces. It does not usually look like outright rebellion. It looks more like a quiet negotiation with Scripture, a slow drift toward trusting our own logic over what God has clearly said. Cain did exactly this. He did not abandon the idea of God altogether. He simply decided that his own reasoning was a valid substitute for God's revealed instruction. That substitution cost him everything. We do the same thing when we read a passage of Scripture and think, "That cannot really mean what it says," or when we reshape our beliefs to fit our preferences rather than letting God's Word reshape us. The carnal mind, as Romans 8 describes it, is naturally at odds with God. Left unchecked, it will always drift toward self-justification. The encouraging truth is that you have the Holy Spirit living inside you. He is not confused about what Scripture means, and He is ready to guide you into truth if you are willing to listen. You do not have to figure this out alone. Bring your questions, your doubts, and your reasoning to God, and let His Word have the final word.

Holy Spirit, reveal the places where I have trusted my own reasoning over Your Word. Give me a

humble heart that submits to Your truth, even when it is uncomfortable. Amen.
