Jesus Carried Every Sin

Scripture Romans 6:5–14

Central Truth

Because Jesus died and rose again, believers no longer have to live under sin’s dominion.

Devotional

The gospel does not merely tell us to try harder. It announces that Jesus Christ has already won the decisive victory.

At Calvary, Jesus carried every sin, every burden, and every failure. He did not die for respectable sins alone. He died for sins that bring public disgrace and sins that remain carefully hidden. He died for pride, bitterness, addiction, sexual immorality, hatred, dishonesty, and unbelief.

There is not a sin that Jesus did not address at the cross.

When He rose from the grave, He demonstrated that sin and death had been defeated. Because He lives, the believer is not helpless before temptation.

God has given us His completed Word. He has placed His Holy Spirit within us. He provides a way of escape when temptation comes. We may still struggle with the fallen nature, but sin is no longer our rightful master.

This does not mean believers become incapable of sinning. It means we are no longer required to obey sin.

You do not have to remain chained to yesterday’s patterns. The Son has made freedom available. Walk today in the victory Jesus has already secured.

Reflection Questions

  1. Do you believe Jesus died for the particular sins that cause you the greatest shame?

  2. What resources has God given you to resist temptation?

  3. How would your daily choices change if you truly believed sin was no longer your master?

Prayer

Jesus, thank You for carrying my sin to the cross. Thank You for rising in victory. Help me stop living as though I am still a helpless slave. Fill me with Your Spirit, strengthen me through Your Word, and teach me to walk in the freedom You purchased. Amen.

Daily Challenge

When temptation appears today, pause before responding. Quote John 8:36 aloud and deliberately choose the way of escape God provides.
