From Death to Life: The Christmas Tree’s True Story

This is day one of a 5-day devotional on the symbols of Christmas. This is a great family devotional helping to teach children and grandchildren the true meaning of Christmas.

Every December, millions of families gather around a Christmas tree, but few understand its profound spiritual meaning. This evergreen symbol tells the story of humanity's greatest tragedy and God's ultimate redemption plan.

In the Garden of Eden stood the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. When Adam and Eve chose disobedience, they brought death into the world and lost access to the Tree of Life. Their choice separated all humanity from God's presence and eternal life. But God didn't abandon His creation.

The Christmas tree represents both trees - the one that brought death and the cross that brought life. Just as the tree in Eden changed everything through disobedience, the cross of Calvary changed everything through Jesus' obedience. The evergreen nature of the Christmas tree reminds us that through Christ, we can have everlasting life.

When you look at your Christmas tree this year, remember it's not just decoration. It's a beautiful reminder that God stepped out of heaven to be born in Bethlehem so He could die on another tree - the cross - to restore our access to eternal life. What seemed like an ending in Eden became a new beginning in Bethlehem.

This Christmas season, let the tree in your home be more than tradition. Let it be a daily reminder of God's incredible love and His plan to bring you from death to life through Jesus Christ.

Bible Verse

'The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the sight and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.' - Genesis 2:9

Reflection Question

How can you use the Christmas tree in your home this year to share the story of God's redemption plan with someone who needs to hear it?

Quote

To restore the access to the Tree of Life, Jesus had to be born so he could die on another tree. The Cross of Calvary. It is through that tree that the Tree of Life is made possible.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for not leaving us in our disobedience and death. Help me see Your redemption story in the symbols around me this Christmas, and give me opportunities to share this hope with others. Amen.
