Building With Eternal Materials
Every day, you're a builder. Whether you realize it or not, you're constructing your Christian life on the foundation of Jesus Christ. But here's the crucial question: what materials are you using? You have two options. You can build with supernatural materials - gold, silver, and precious stones - which represent works done through the Holy Spirit's power. Or you can build with natural materials - wood, hay, and stubble - which represent human effort, even good deeds done in your own strength. Here's what's surprising: you can do genuinely good things that will burn up like hay and stubble because you weren't led by the Holy Spirit. The difference isn't always in what you do, but in how and why you do it. When you allow Christ to live through you, when you depend on the Holy Spirit's guidance, when you serve from a heart of love rather than obligation - that's when you're building with eternal materials. These works will survive the fire of God's testing and become the basis for your eternal rewards. The key is surrendering your efforts to God and allowing Him to work through you.
Bible Verse
'According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.' - 1 Corinthians 3:10
Reflection Question
What's one area of your life where you might be building with human effort instead of allowing the Holy Spirit to work through you?
Prayer
Holy Spirit, help me to build my Christian life with eternal materials. Teach me to depend on Your power rather than my own strength in everything I do. Amen.
