Jesus—The Greatest Giant Slayer

Devotional
Every story in this devotional has been pointing to one Person.
Jesus Christ.
We have watched Noah trust God.
Joshua cross the Jordan.
Caleb claim the mountain.
David defeat Goliath.
Each account teaches us something about faith.
But none of them is the greatest victory in the Bible.
The greatest victory did not occur in the Valley of Elah.
It happened on a hill called Calvary.
When David faced Goliath, he defeated a giant that terrified Israel.
When Jesus went to the cross, He defeated the giant that condemned all humanity.
Sin.
Death.
Satan.
Those are the greatest enemies mankind has ever faced.
Unlike Goliath, these giants cannot be overcome by courage.
They cannot be defeated by determination.
No amount of religion, morality, education, or good works can conquer them.
Every person has sinned.
Every person faces death.
Every person stands guilty before a holy God apart from Christ.
That is why God did what no human being could ever do.
He sent His Son.
Jesus entered our world, lived a sinless life, willingly bore our sins upon the cross, and endured the judgment we deserved.
From every earthly perspective, Calvary appeared to be defeat.
The soldiers mocked Him.
The religious leaders rejected Him.
His disciples scattered.
Darkness covered the land.
It looked as though evil had finally prevailed.
But appearances can be deceiving.
What looked like Satan's greatest victory became his greatest defeat.
As your sermon concluded, humanity's greatest giant was never Goliath—it was sin itself. At the cross Jesus defeated the enemy we could never conquer, and through His resurrection He triumphed over death, proving Himself to be the greatest Giant Slayer of all.
Three days later, the tomb was empty.
Death had been conquered.
Sin had been paid for.
Satan's authority had been broken.
Jesus Christ had won the decisive victory.
That changes everything.
It means that no believer fights for victory.
We fight from victory.
The greatest battle has already been won.
Every other giant we face is temporary because the greatest enemy has already been defeated.
Fear no longer has the final word.
Death no longer has the final word.
Sin no longer has the final word.
Jesus does.
Perhaps you have faithfully read every devotional in this series while carrying a burden that feels impossible.
Remember this:
The same Savior who conquered the grave is able to sustain you today.
He may not remove every trial immediately.
He may not answer every question when you want.
But He has already guaranteed the final outcome.
Because Christ lives, His people have hope.
One day every giant will fall forever.
Sin will be gone.
Sickness will end.
Tears will cease.
Death will be swallowed up in victory.
Satan will be judged.
The redeemed will stand forever in the presence of the King of kings.
Until that day, we continue walking by faith.
We face today's giants with confidence because tomorrow belongs to Christ.
As this devotional journey comes to an end, remember the truth that has echoed from Genesis to the cross:
The giant standing before you is never greater than the God who stands beside you.
More importantly,
The greatest Giant Slayer has already won the greatest victory.
Trust Him.
Follow Him.
Rest in Him.
And when the next giant appears, remember that your Savior has never lost a battle—and He never will.

Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for sending Your Son to accomplish what I never could. Thank You that Jesus defeated sin, death, and Satan through His death and glorious resurrection. Because of Him, I have forgiveness, hope, and eternal life. Help me to live each day in the confidence of His finished work. When giants arise, remind me that the greatest victory has already been won. Strengthen my faith, deepen my trust, and help me to magnify my Savior more than my circumstances. May my life point others to Jesus Christ, the greatest Giant Slayer, until the day I stand in His presence forever.
In the victorious and matchless name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
