When Jesus Seems Late
Have you ever felt like God was taking too long to answer your prayers? Mary and Martha certainly did. When their brother Lazarus fell critically ill, they sent an urgent message to Jesus, expecting Him to drop everything and rush to their aid. Instead, Jesus stayed where He was for two more days. By the time He arrived, Lazarus had been dead for four days. From a human perspective, Jesus was devastatingly late. But here's what we must understand: Jesus is never actually late. He operates on divine timing, not human urgency. Sometimes what feels like delay is actually divine strategy. God sees the bigger picture when we can only see our immediate crisis. The sisters wanted healing, but Jesus had resurrection in mind. They were thinking about avoiding death, but Jesus was planning to demonstrate His power over death itself. When we're in the middle of waiting, it's natural to feel forgotten or abandoned. But God's apparent delays aren't denials of our requests - they're opportunities for Him to work in ways that exceed our expectations.
Bible Verse
'Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. So when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days, and then he said to his disciples, "Let us go back to Judea."' -John 11:5-7
Reflection Question
What situation in your life feels like Jesus is 'too late' to help, and how might God be preparing something greater than what you originally asked for?
Prayer
Lord, help me trust Your perfect timing even when it doesn't match my expectations. Give me faith to believe that Your delays are not denials but opportunities for Your glory to be revealed. Amen
