The Danger of Looking Back
Lot's wife was so close to safety - possibly just yards from the city of refuge - when she made her fatal choice to look back. Her backward glance wasn't just curiosity; it revealed where her heart truly was.
Despite the angels' warnings and her husband's urgency, part of her was still attached to the life she was leaving behind. We all face moments when we're tempted to look back at our old way of living. Maybe it's remembering the temporary pleasures of sin, the comfort of familiar patterns, or the security of what we used to know.
But looking back when God is calling us forward is always dangerous. It reveals that our hearts haven't fully embraced the new life He's offering. The encouraging news is that God doesn't want us to live in the past. He has incredible plans for our future! When we follow Jesus, we're not just escaping judgment - we're running toward abundant life, purpose, and eternal joy. The old life may seem appealing in moments of weakness, but it can never compare to what God has in store for those who trust Him completely.
Wherever your eyes are focused will determine the path your feet take. If you're constantly looking back at what you've left behind, you'll stumble and fall. But if you keep your eyes fixed on Jesus and the future He's prepared for you, you'll find strength to keep moving forward.
Today, choose to look ahead with hope rather than backward with regret.
