Day 5: Growing Together in Grace
Growth is a sign of life. When something stops growing, it's either dead or dying. This principle applies not only to our physical bodies but also to our spiritual lives and our churches. God's design for His people is continuous growth—both individually and collectively. But here's the key: spiritual growth rarely happens in isolation.
Just as plants grow better in the right environment with proper nutrients and care, believers grow best when they're connected to a healthy church body. We need each other's encouragement, accountability, and support to reach our full potential in Christ. When churches prioritize unity and focus on their shared mission, they create the perfect environment for growth.
People feel safe to be vulnerable about their struggles, excited to use their gifts, and motivated to invite others into this loving community. Growth becomes natural and sustainable. However, when churches are marked by division and conflict, growth stagnates. People become defensive rather than open, critical rather than encouraging, and inward-focused rather than outward-reaching. The very environment that should nurture growth becomes toxic to it.
The beautiful truth is that it's never too late to change course. Every day offers a fresh opportunity to choose unity over division, grace over judgment, and growth over stagnation. When we commit to walking worthy of our calling and maintaining the unity of the Spirit, we create space for God to do amazing things in and through us. The question isn't whether God wants His church to grow—He does. The question is whether we'll create the conditions that allow that growth to flourish.
Bible Verse
"Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace." - Ephesians 4:3
Reflection Question
In what specific ways can you contribute to creating an environment in your church that promotes both spiritual and numerical growth?
Quote When it becomes about Jesus Christ, we'll grow. When it's about me and when it's about you, we'll just keep on going like we're going.
Prayer
Lord, I want to be part of a church that grows in every way—spiritually, numerically, and in influence for Your kingdom. Help me to do my part in maintaining unity and creating an environment where people can encounter You and grow in their faith. Use our church as a beacon of hope in our community. Amen.
