Confidence?
On Mount Carmel, Elijah faced 850 false prophets in what seemed like an impossible showdown. But instead of relying on his own abilities, he made the situation even more challenging by soaking the altar with water during a drought. Why? Because he understood the difference between self-confidence and God-confidence. Self-confidence says, "I can handle this," while God-confidence says, "God is sufficient." When Elijah prayed a simple prayer, fire fell from heaven and consumed not just the sacrifice, but the altar, stones, and water too. God made it clear that this was His doing, not human effort. In our culture that celebrates self-reliance, we need this reminder: our strength comes from surrender, not from our own capabilities. One person surrendered to God becomes a powerful instrument in His hands. The question isn't whether you're strong enough—it's whether you're surrendered enough.
Bible Verse
'And it came to pass, at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near and said, "Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel and I am Your servant, and that I have done all these things at Your word."' - 1 Kings 18:36
